Here are the winners of the 27th SAG Awards
The countdown to the Oscars continued tonight with the Screen Actors Guild Awards, whose 27th installment aired in an hourlong, pre-taped ceremony partially filmed at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Because of, well, everything, this year the SAG Awards forwent a host; instead, the ceremony was held together by docuseries-style interviews—topics included Zoom fatigue, embarrassing headshots, and Helen Mirren staring down a bear in the Sierra Nevada mountains (we dunno, she brought it up)—as well as pre-taped comedy sketches like the amiable Ted Lasso riff that bookended this year’s show. Among this year’s presenters/interviewees: Riz Ahmed, Sterling K. Brown, Lily Collins, Common, Ted Danson, Viola Davis, Daveed Diggs, Cynthia Erivo, Jimmy Fallon, Josh Gad, Henry Golding, Ethan Hawke, Mindy Kaling, Dan Levy, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, Daisy Ridley, Mary Steenburgen, and Jason Sudeikis.
The SAG Awards honor both film and TV, and with a voting body that significantly overlaps with the acting branches of both the Oscars and the Emmys, a SAG win bodes well for either of those awards as well. This year marked the first time ever that all four of the major SAG film awards went to people of color, as Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Danial Kaluuya, and Yuh-Jung Youn all walked away with wins.
We’ll update this post with each category as they’re announced. Winners are marked in bold.
