Like sports fans adrift in the off season, devotees of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire have devised their own ways to weather the Long Night between books in the saga. And so A Forum of Ice and Fire member El-Daddy has created this chart showing the interrelationships of every major House in the series’ fictional kingdom of Westeros (for the minutia-minded, he explains his methodology in another forum post).
The chart also reveals who’s currently living and who’s dead in the series up to this point, both of which constitute spoilers for TV fans and book laggards. But it’s the revelation that all of the earliest generations of Westerosi have long since succumbed to the inevitability of fate (valar morghulis, friends) that may signal the ultimate end to Martin’s epic: The death of all life at the heat death of the universe, roughly when he’s expected to wrap up A Dream of Spring.
