Here’s a deleted Saturday Night Live sketch about a failing ’90s Nickelodeon show

This weekend’s Anna Kendrick-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live contained a bunch of solid nostalgia for children of the ’90s, including references to both Beauty And The Beast and The Little Mermaid. What the show didn’t contain, for whatever reason, was this deleted sketch about a totally drugged-out version of a Nickelodeon show from 1994. “Nickelodeon Show” tells the story of Zap!, a fictional series that aired on the network and, to keep its cast appropriately peppy, fed it “off-the-street speed.” It’s a simple enough concept, but becomes relatively terrifying in execution, with Kendrick, Taran Killam, Nasim Pedrad, and real-life Nickelodeon veteran Kenan Thompson playing kids who slowly spiral into insanity as the show goes on. Eventually, around episode 128, “Spanish Day,” everything falls apart in a druggy blitz that didn’t get many laughs in dress rehearsal, but is absolutely on point with Nick’s manic aesthetic from the era. Get ready to wonder about Lori Beth Denberg’s prescription cocktail from 20 years ago.
