Here’s a preview of the many easter eggs in Suicide Squad
The reviews of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad haven’t been great, but if you’re still planning to give DC’s “worst heroes ever” a try, you could always distract yourself from its rougher patches by keeping an eye out for easter eggs. Like most comic book movies, Suicide Squad includes a bunch of little nods to the comics, and this handy article from Inverse lays out a bunch of the ones you should be on the lookout for. A lot of the stuff seems pretty straightforward, like the existence of Belle Reve Penitentiary (the prison that Amanda Waller tends to “recruit” her Suicide Squad members from) and Arkham Asylum (which reportedly features the absurdly gothic architecture it has in the comics this time around), but some of the others go a little deeper.
For example, the movie predominantly takes place in Midway City, typically the home of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Also, one member of the Squad—we won’t say who, but it’s the one who’s barely in the ads—meets his end in the exact same way that he does in the old Suicide Squad comics. Finally, for people who aren’t crazy about Harley Quinn’s new look, there’s apparently a very brief reference to Alex Ross’ iconic Batman: Harley Quinn cover, right down to the Joker’s tuxedo and Quinn’s red and black outfit.
There are a few more easter eggs listed at this link, but if you want to actually see them for yourself, you’re gonna have to go see Suicide Squad.
