Here’s America Ferrera, Scarlett Johansson, and more speaking at the Women’s March

Today, people have flocked to the streets all around the country (and the world) to stand for women’s rights and to protest Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and every other sexist, racist, xenophobic creep who thinks they’ve just woken up in a world under their control. The Women’s March On Washington was the day’s main event, and a number of famous people decided to use their status to draw more attention to the threat Trump’s administration poses to women, immigrants, and pretty much everyone else whose last name isn’t Trump.

Janelle Monae spoke about the historical importance and power of women, throwing in the fiery line “we birthed this nation, and we can unbirth a nation if we choose”:

Here’s Madonna explaining that “it took this horrific moment of darkness to wake us the fuck up” (one of several f-bombs that actually aired on CNN, causing flustered anchor Brooke Baldwin to cut away):

America Ferrera, one of the organizers of the Women’s March, also made a powerful speech, declaring that “the president is not America…we are America, and we are here to stay”:

Other celebrities in attendance in Washington included Michael Moore, Lena Dunham, Connie Britton, Padma Lakshmi, and Supergirl star Melissa Benoist, who brought along a particularly inspired protest sign:

This evening, even more people are heading to Washington D.C. for a Women’s March after-party concert, with The National, Sleator-Kinney, Ted Leo, Samantha Ronson, Tig Notaro, and Janeane Garofalo making appearances.
