Everyone already knew that Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” sounded similar. (Hell, that’s probably why Smith ponied up and gave both Petty and Jeff Lynne songwriting credit yesterday.) But a YouTube clip that’s been making the rounds really drives that message home. User Envanligfjant originally posted the comparison clip last summer but has really gotten a lot of traction out of it over the past few days, when everyone’s been using his really clear illustration of the songs’ similarities to prove how right they already knew they were.
