Here’s how they filmed that bridge stunt in Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom

In a new animated interview for The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences’ “Academy Originals” series, special effects supervisor George Gibbs (aka “One Take George”) recounts the story of filming the bridge stunt in Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom in which Indy cuts a rope bridge he’s standing on. (“He no nuts… He’s crazy!”) Not only did the production have to figure out how to safely destroy the bridge and some non-cooperative weather, they also had to deal with the crowd of Sri Lankan locals who came out to watch the stunt. Really, the best thing about the interview is getting a glimpse at Gibbs’ laid-back demeanor, which must come in handy when producing high-octane stunts.
