Here’s the first clip of André 3000 in that Jimi Hendrix biopic

In anticipation of its upcoming U.S. premiere at South By Southwest, a clip of the new Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is By My Side, has been released. The film stars Outkast’s André Benjamin, and made headlines last year when it was announced that none of Hendrix’s actual music would be used, due the Hendrix estate’s lack of support for the film.

The brief, one-minute video features Benjamin in a half-flirting, half-confessional conversation with Imogen Poots, who plays a groupie named Linda Keith. There’s been a series of reported delays and setbacks and very little buzz about this film, despite the director, John Ridley, being fresh off an Oscar win for writing 12 Years A Slave. Ridley’s riding high on Hollywood clout at the moment, but this movie has a lot of obstacles to overcome. Benjamin’s vocal impersonation of the guitarist seems kind of close, though.
