Here’s the U.S. trailer for ridiculously popular anime Your Name

Director Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name is the highest-grossing anime film of all time, and though it played in the U.S. for a week last year to quality for the Academy Awards, it’s getting a proper stateside release on April 7. To drum up hype, anime distributor Funimation Films has now shared an English-language trailer for Your Name that introduces the basic plot and teases some of the emotional drama of the film’s story. See, this is one of those coming-of-age anime stories about teens who encounter something inexplicable and life-changing, not one of those coming-of-age anime stories about teens who are the only ones capable of piloting giant robots for whatever reason. That may turn some people off, but io9 says the movie is “truly wonderful” and “handled with a grace that’s rare in cinema,” so apparently it’s pretty good.

Plus, if you’re a dedicated anime purist, Funimation will be holding screenings with both an English dub and English subtitles. You can find more information about the screenings at this link, and you can see a subtitled trailer below.

[Note: io9, like The A.V. Club, is owned by Univision Communications.]
