“Every word in the following video is a direct quote from Donald Trump.” So goes the quite necessary disclaimer that precedes “Trump Kid For President,” a bracing bit of reality-based sketch comedy from FulariousTV in which freckle-faced child actor Andrew Fox portrays the 69-year-old real estate mogul, reality show personality, and office seeker. Writer-director Max Lanman has given his young star a dark blue suit, an American flag lapel pin, and some of the most tone-deaf, casually racist, and proudly sexist rhetoric ever spewed by a viable political candidate. As outrageous as these statements may seem, FulariousTV has sources for every last one, even such doozies as “I would take away their wealth. I would take away the oil. What you should be doing now is taking away the oil. Bomb them!”
When a grown man says these things, it’s merely disheartening, especially when that man stands a better-than-average chance of securing his party’s nomination for the highest office in this land. But what happens when a child roughly six decades Trump’s junior says them? That’s what Lanman aims to find out, and to accomplish this, he has enlisted the services of a pre-adolescent Stephen Colbert (Zach Hennessey), a miniature Megyn Kelly (Ashlyn Boots), and even a junior varsity Anderson Cooper (Dylan Neumeyer), all of whom express skepticism and bafflement over Trump’s statements. The de-aged Donald largely comes off as a spoiled brat, a demented Richie Rich who has been allowed to say whatever he wants all of his life and has no idea how his words sound to other people. To this kid, it’s perfectly natural to just say insulting, patronizing shit like, “You know, I have a great relationship with African-Americans, as you possibly have heard.” (Lanman has him saying this to his caddy as he plays a round of golf.) “Trump Kid” arguably has an excuse: He’s too young to know any better. The real Donald Trump does not.
