Netflix is getting ready to kick off one of its boldest experiments yet as it prepares for the launch of the mononymous Chelsea, its first real foray into topical TV chat. Starring Chelsea Handler—who previously did a docu-series, Chelsea Does, for the streaming service—the new talk show is set to debut on May 11, and will air every week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Similarly bold (if less formally adventurous), May will also see the debut of Lady Dynamite, Maria Bamford’s energetically honest and strange exercise in autobiography. The series (and all its attendant neuroses and funny voices) will debut on May 20.
Featuring a different kind of boldness, meanwhile, the service is also premiering its second Adam Sandler collaboration, The Do-Over. The movie will arrive on May 27, in all its David-Spade-fellatio-faced glory. The Do-Over will be taking the place (at least in part) of departing movies like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Blade Runner, and Alexander Payne’s brilliant Election, because the universe is a cold and hostile place.
Reese Witherspoon fanatics are still in luck, though, because the service is also picking up her 1998 feature Pleasantville, in which she singlehandedly imports the concept of sex into a 1950s TV town. Those whose nostalgic tastes run more to the late ’90s and early 2000s, meanwhile, will be happy to hear that Eddie Murphy’s The Nutty Professor, and that hard-hitting look at the cheer-o-cratic process, Bring It On, have also made their way onto the roster.
