Summer won’t officially start until next week, but like any self-respecting nerd who hates being too hot, The CW is already looking ahead to the fall. The network just announced its 2016-2017 fall schedule, and like it does most years, The CW will steer clear of overcrowded September and focus instead on dominating October.
The network’s fall season kicks off with the return of The Flash on Tuesday, October 4 at 8 p.m. EST, followed by the premiere of The CW’s brand new apocalyptic romantic comedy No Tomorrow. The hour-long series follows a timid woman who falls for a free-spirited hunk, only to learn he thinks the world is going to end in a eight months and 12 days.
The CW is sticking with another superhero/new series double header the next night, Wednesday, October 5, when the fifth season premiere of Arrow is followed by the debut of the new sci-fi series Frequency. Amateur radio, alternate dimensions, and a healthy dose of daddy/daughter issues combine in the TV adaptation of a 2000 film of the same name.
As was previously announced, The CW will officially keep its newly acquired series Supergirl in the same Monday night 8 p.m. time slot it held back when it was on CBS. The show’s second season—and the first episode of the series produced under The CW’s banner—will premiere Monday, October 10. It’ll be joined the following week by Jane The Virgin, which returns October 17 at 9 p.m. The network’s final superhero series, Legends Of Tomorrow, returns for a second season on Thursday, October 13 at 8 p.m. That means The CW will air a Greg Berlanti superhero series four out of the five weekdays.
Meanwhile, Supernatural joins Legends Of Tomorrow on Thursday nights starting October 13 as well. It moves from its previous Wednesday time slot, although the bigger story here is that Supernatural is somehow in its 12th season. Also making a jump is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which moves from Mondays to Fridays when it returns on October 21. That critically acclaimed musical comedy will share the evening with—of all things—The Vampire Diaries, which returns for an eighth season on the same night. Hopefully that’s setting up a crossover episode where Rebecca Bunch sings a love duet with Damon Salvatore.
Saved for later in the season are iZombie, The Originals, Reign, and The 100, plus the debut of the highly anticipated Archie-inspired teen drama Riverdale.
