Hereditary's Ari Aster says his next movie is "a Wizard Of Oz for perverts"

We were already suitably disturbed by the brightly sinister trailer for Midsommar, the second big horror release from Hereditary writer-director Ari Aster. But now you can color us officially “intrigued,” courtesy of a new description Aster recently busted out for his upcoming Scandanavian folk-horror flick, one that probably won’t be appearing on a poster any time soon: “A Wizard Of Oz for perverts.”

Aster was talking about his new movie—about a couple (Florence Pugh and Will Poulter) who’ve apparently never seen a horror movie before, and thus decide to check out a mysterious pagan festival in an off-the-grid little town—to Vulture, also noting that the brightly-colored hellscape is “his Mamma Mia!”. Anyway, we’re pretty sure there are two types of people in the world: Those for whom the idea of the director of one of the best horror movies of 2018 using the phrase “Wizard Of Oz for perverts” gets their hearts beating in an anxiously delighted way, and squares.

Midsommar debuts this summer.
