Here's a massive supercut of Weird Al covering everyone from Bowie to They Might Be Giants

“Weird Al” Yankovic is a gifted musical mimic, capable of copying the styles of just about anybody his tastes latch upon. Normally, Al devotes those talents to the world of parody, but every now and then, apparently, he finds himself gripped by the urge to actually get the words right. And where better to let those impulses go than on his own Ridiculously Self-Indulgent Ill-Advised Vanity Tour?

As it turns out, Yankovic didn’t play just a handful of straight covers over the course of the 2018 tour, which saw him forgoing most of his more famous songs in favor of originals and lesser-known cuts. He played 77, offering up a new one as an encore every single night. And now—cementing, as if he needed it, his reputation as a guy who does right by his fans—Yankovic has released a supercut of all 77 songs, for anybody who’s ever wanted to hear him take on the Talking Heads, Cheap Trick, Badfinger, Devo, The Clash, Smash Mouth, U2, the Violent Femmes, and dozens more. (On a personal note, we’d love to hear the full version of Al working all the way through Tom Lehrer’s novelty classic “The Elements”.)

The whole video is 26 minutes long, so we wouldn’t blame you for skipping around, but if you ever needed a reminder that there’s a tremendous amount of musical talent and passion hiding underneath all the food jokes, it’s a nice little data point.
