Theatre geeks rejoice: The way is clear, the light is good, and the first photos of Disney's Into The Woods have been released. Broadway World has assembled a first look at the Rob Marshall-directed, big-screen adaptation of the beloved Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine musical, which is currently filming on location in the UK. The photos seem to take place at the wedding of Anna Kendrick’s Cinderella and her Prince Charming, Chris Pine. Other photos feature James Corden as the Baker, Emily Blunt as the Baker’s Wife, Christine Baranski as Cinderella’s stepmother, and Tracey Ullman as Jack’s mother (of beanstalk fame).
The musical, a dark adaptation of classic Grimm fairy tales, also stars Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp, who have yet to pop up. Those unfamiliar with the musical can enjoy the anachronistic image of a fairy-tale prince with sunglasses and a digital camera, while those who are familiar with the musical can make references to “slotted spoons” their friends won’t understand until the movie is released December 25, 2014.
