What separates the Legoland theme parks from rest of the amusement industry is the one area in each park dedicated to scale models of famous landmarks from around the world constructed entirely from the interlocking bricks. In anticipation of The Lego Movie this week, real estate blog Movoto took 17 movie homes and estimated the number of bricks needed to build a life-size replica, and the cost of all the parts (roughly estimated at about 10 cents per brick). The list includes Hogwarts, the Sultan’s Palace from Aladdin, and the firehouse from Ghostbusters. The most reasonable is Yoda’s Hut from The Empire Strikes Back, which would take less than two million bricks, and the most complex would be Superman’s Fortress Of Solitude—which already boasted an astronomical estimated construction cost last summer—taking almost 500 billion bricks. The structural integrity isn’t great, but if anyone feels like building a real version of Tony Stark’s mansion (which has its own official 364-piece Lego set) or Howl’s Moving Castle out of Legos, it’s probably time to start collecting massive amounts of bricks.
