Here's the first trailer for Roma, Alfonso Cuarón's follow-up to Gravity

Netflix just released the first trailer for Roma, Alfonso Cuarón’s long-in-the-works follow-up to 2013’s Gravity. The film is a deeply personal work for the director, drawing on events from his childhood to tell the story of a single family throughout a turbulent year, emotionally and politically. If the reduction in scale seemed strange for a director who released two of the definitive science fiction films of the new millennium—and also the best Harry Potter movie, for what it’s worth—the new footage shows that it’s very much a progression from those works, showing the same meticulously crafted shots and elegant sense of scale at work in the more grounded setting of his earlier films. Cuarón is serving as writer, director, editor, and cinematographer, and introduced the trailer on Twitter with the caption, “Time and Space constrain us, but they also define who we are, creating inexplicable bonds with the others that flow with us at the same time and through the same places.” So maybe they all go to space at some point? They probably don’t go to space at some point.

It’s due out later this year in theaters and on Netflix.
