Here's the first, very vague plot details of Us, Jordan Peele's Get Out follow-up
Jordan Peele is what one might call “proactive.” Once his Oscar-winning debut film, Get Out, scored the critical and commercial success that gets major studios in your corner, the multi-hyphenate wasted no time getting shit made. That includes a Twilight Zone reboot for CBS, a Candyman remake with a black woman at the helm, an HBO series based on Matt Ruff’s Lovecraft Country, a timely Nazi-hunting drama for Amazon, and an intriguing docuseries about ‘90s tabloid sensation Lorena Bobbitt. But then there’s his own enigmatic sophomore feature, Us, for which we’ve seen a poster, an impressive cast, and little else. Well, until now.
/Film got its mitts on a plot synopsis to the film that’s being sent out with recent test screening invites. Sure, it’s vague as hell, but it still offers a bit to chew on. Read it below:
A mother (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o from Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 12 Years a Slave) and a father (Winston Duke from Black Panther) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Emmy winner Elizabeth Moss from TV series The Handmaid’s Tale). But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.
A story like that could go anywhere, but, as in Get Out, Peele appears drawn to the social and racial tensions that arise when disparate groups are thrust together in seemingly non-threatening settings. Along with the aforementioned names, Us stars Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Anna Diop, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, and Madison Curry, as well as identical twins Noelle and Cali Sheldon.
As of now, the movie has a release date of March 15, 2019.
