Hey, how about J.J. Abrams also makes the Portal and Half-Life movies?

After commandeering both Star Trek and Star Wars franchises and ensuring that every TV season will see at least one new sci-fi “event” series from him, hey, how about J.J. Abrams also takes on the movie versions of Portal and Half-Life? As Wired reports, that proposal was sort-of-made at Las Vegas’ DICE Summit, where Gabe Newell, head of game developer Valve, said he was hoping to hand Abrams the two popular video game series to turn into movies that would similarly mine established sci-fi intellectual property and have J.J. Abrams’ name on it.

“We’re going to figure out if we can make a Portal movie or Half-Life movie together,” Newell said of the only science-fiction producer in the entire world, who fortunately happened to be right there next to him, and whose participation is key to realizing any projects such as these. Abrams also confirmed that his Bad Robot production company is collaborating with Valve on “an idea we have for a game” created during its many daily brainstorming sessions on how they can control even more areas of nerd-friendly entertainment. However, he stopped short of giving any more details, too distracted by a nearby child playing with a toy spaceship that he immediately snatched away, promising to make it better.
