HGTV's Property Brothers developing sitcom that will almost certainly suck mountains of ass
As the Property Brothers, Jonathan and Drew Scott anchor HGTV’s lineup of “shows you watch with Mom on Thanksgiving.” They’ve built a veritable empire, with their namesake program having spun off into shows like Brother vs. Brother and Property Brothers: At Home. Now, the boys hope to rehab Fox’s lame-duck comedy lineup with a new sitcom, which will be scripted in, let’s say, a more traditional format than their other shows.
Jon and Josh Silberman, the very same writers behind Warner Bros’ Wile E. Coyote movie, will help develop a series inspired by the Scotts, who will serve as executive producers on the project. And though it’s titled It Takes Two, the project doesn’t appear to be a modern-day retelling of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s 1995 classic. Rather, Variety reports that the series will be a single-camera sitcom following “two entrepreneurial twin brothers who decide to join forces in the real estate business when they realize they are stronger together than apart.” Currently, it’s been given a script commitment with a penalty attached.
Look, this thing sounds awful. Have we forgotten Emeril already? People don’t wanna watch these guys celebrate the bonds of brotherhood; they wanna watch them help absurdly rich people find their dream homes while swiping through Instagram. Unless, of course, they go the Riverdale route and just make the thing uncharacteristically tawdry. That, we’d watch.
