HLN confuses Edward Snowden and Edward Scissorhands

Jon Hendren is a longtime Something Awful writer who has improbably rebranded himself as a DevOps guru but is possibly best known for locking down the Twitter handle @fart (and for getting the guy from Smashmouth to eat a bunch of eggs). He may have just cemented his legacy, however, in an appearance on HLN’s The Daily Share, ostensibly made to give his perspective as an Edward Snowden supporter commenting on the NSA whistleblower joining Twitter while still living in exile in Russia. Instead, Hendren spent the whole interview operating under the assumption that host Yasmin Vossoughian was actually talking about Edward Scissorhands:

Adding to the absurdity is the fact that Vossoughian seems to find nothing odd in Hendren’s comments, not even flinching at stuff like, “People didn’t get scared until he started sculpting shrubs into dinosaur shapes and whatnot,” and, “Casting him out is just completely wrong…just because he was created on top of a mountain by Vincent Price.” Instead, she presses on as if he’s still talking about Edward Snowden, who apparently spooked the public when he “poked a hole in a waterbed with his scissor finger,” as far as HLN producers are concerned.

Hendren, whose appearance evidently captured the attention of everyone from former Michigan Rep. John Dingell (or at least the interns running his Twitter account) to Burger King Pakistan, told Esquire that he has no idea why he was contacted to appear on the show and was himself surprised that he was never cut off while talking about Edward Scissorhands as a martyred hero. While we can only hope that the unexplained appearance heralds a new age in Internet dudes gleefully trolling the clueless media, New York magazine may have cracked the case, suggesting that HLN meant to instead book Al Jazeera correspondent John (with an ‘h’) Hendren.
