Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a Star Wars episode of MythBusters, kid

Here’s what’s up in the world of television for Friday, January 3 and Saturday, January 4. All times are Eastern.

MythBusters (Saturday, Discovery, 8 p.m.): A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, fantasy was a viable entertainment option and willing suspension of disbelief allowed moviegoers to enjoy tales about intergalactic combat and walking carpets with fantastic marksmanship. But then science had to get all finicky about its relationship to fiction, which is how we arrive at Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman trying to figure out if the ol’ Ewok double-battering ram trick could’ve actually disabled an AT-ST. Clearly this is just Savage’s revenge for his suffering in the Attack Of The Clones mines of Kessel.

Grimm (Friday, NBC, 9 p.m.): TV’s slow stirring from its midwinter slumber shakes Grimm back into consciousness. Kevin McFarland might still end up hitting the snooze button a couple more times, though.

How To Live To 100 (Friday, Cooking, 9 p.m.): A new series provides pointers on achieving the longevity (and, assumedly, the superpowers) of a centenarian. But there’s no guarantee that technological advances will allow you to brush up on DVR’ed episodes of How To Live To 100 near the end of the 21st century.

Oprah: Where Are They Now? (Friday, OWN, 9 p.m.): The first profile listed in this catch-up with the stars centers on Kristin Chenoweth, who’s pretty hard to overlook during the red-carpet coverage for awards ceremonies or any function where sheet music is involved.

Something Borrowed, Something New (TLC, 10 p.m.): It’s only now come to your What’s On Tonight correspondent’s attention that TLC refers to its Friday-night lineup as “BrideDay.” TV Club writers will soon compete in a rigorous pun-off to determine who will handle the coveted, weekly BrideDay catch-all review.

Dracula (Friday, NBC, 10:01 p.m.): A.k.a. How To “Live” To 100.

Dinner Party Wars (Saturday, Bio, 10 p.m.): Dearest Martha: The January winds whip  across the flatware-littered fronts of these damnable Dinner Party Wars, and yet the memory of your face warms like the heat of 1,000 tastefully appointed illuminated centerpieces. If only we brave culinary soldiers had been born to fight in these “star wars” Sgt. Savage keeps babbling on about…

24/7: Red Wings/Maple Leafs (Saturday, HBO, 10 p.m.): The latest round of premium-cable hockey documenting reaches its finale. Unless you consider the actual 2013 Winter Classic to be the finale, in which case: No spoilers, please. (And no reminders of that game-clinching shootout.)

Rev Run’s Renovation (Saturday, DIY, 10 p.m.): Whose renovation? Run’s Renovation!

The Following (Saturday, Fox, 11:30 p.m.): Contrary to the Baudelaire-by-way-of-Usual Suspects promos for season two, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled wasn’t convincing the world he didn’t exist. In truth, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing some poor assistant editor to compile this serial-killer series’ first season into a coherent recap special.

The Princess And The Frog (Friday, Disney, 8 p.m.): History will likely cite Tangled as the endpoint of Disney animation’s post-Treasure Planet tailspin, but it was the studio’s rollicking, gorgeous The Frog Prince: Port Of Call New Orleans that truly reversed those fortunes.

The Net (Friday, TVGN, 8 p.m.): You heard of this “Information Superhighway” deal? What’s On Tonight hadn’t until this chilling (not at all alarmist) cautionary tale alerted us to the dangers of accepting mysterious floppy disks.

The Muppet Movie (Saturday, ABC Family, 9 p.m.): Make it an amphibians-in-peril double feature weekend with Kermit The Frog’s attempt to find stardom and elude the nefarious Doc Hopper. It’s the most sensational, inspirational, cameo-packed homage to Hope-and-Crosby ever filmed!

Orange Bowl: Clemson vs. Ohio State (Friday, ESPN, 8:30 p.m.): Or, as it’s formally known, the “Discover Orange Bowl,” a naming-rights pileup that sounds less like a subtle credit-card ad and more like an invitation to recognize the wonders and joys of citrus. Discover orange, why don’t you?

NFL Playoff: New Orleans at Philadelphia (Saturday, NBC, 8:10 p.m.): The Eagles made the postseason thanks to a last-minute interception, sending a Wild Card Saints squad to the least hospitable of possible playoff destinations—weather- and fan-wise.
