Hollywood goes over the rainbow celebrating marriage equality

In preparation for what our sister site The Onion calls “the most buck-wild pride parade nation’s ever seen,” this morning the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that all 50 states must allow and legally acknowledge same-sex marriages. As one might expect, everyone went absolutely apeshit at this news, with the sweet, sweet schadenfreude-infused tears currently flowing out of Rick Santorum’s Twitter account at one end and President Obama publicly congratulating the plaintiffs in the case on the other.

But, as always, when faced with historical change we must ask ourselves the real question: What do celebrities think about all this? Hollywood has long been a stronghold of unbridled, godless liberalism, so naturally most of the entertainers who weighed in on the subject were pleased with the ruling. Star Trek alum/King of Facebook George Takei probably has about three million likes on his post by now, and Ian McKellen was cute as usual in a celebratory Vine post with his pal Derek Jacobi. American Horror Story’s Denis O’Hare seemed pleased too, but who wouldn’t be hanging out in the cafe from Kill Bill, Vol. 2?:

Some responses were earnest:

And the jokesters had their jokes:

Some could only express their joy in emojis:

Others kept it short and sweet:

To all the American couples now legally headed to the altar, The A.V. Club extends our congratulations:

Meanwhile, in Canada, this is old news.
