Holmes himself would be impressed by this elaborate Sherlock musical parody

A lot of people like the BBC’s Sherlock, with its clever twists on old stories, creative imagery, and fun chemistry between Benedict Cumberbatch’s Holmes and Martin Freeman’s Dr. Watson, but some people don’t just like it, they really like it. They obsessed over the theories about how Sherlock faked his death, they make blogs dedicated to Moriarty, and they can’t help but do a little freakout when the show dips into fan-service. This musical Sherlock parody from the Hillywood Show YouTube channel isn’t for the people who like Sherlock. It’s for those people who really like it.

The whole thing is based around the hook from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop,” but that shouldn’t scare anyone away because the actual Sherlock stuff is so impressively thorough that even people who don’t watch the show should be able to recognize how much work went into this. For one thing, the team behind the video actually went to a bunch of the same locations used in the show, and they packed the lyrics in the song with references to various specific episodes and quotes. Plus, Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat even stops by for a little cameo.

Then, to take it even further, there’s a full hour-long behind-the-scenes video detailing all of the work that went into the parody:
