With Homeland finally coming to an end this season, there’s been plenty of time for introspection about the show’s story and message. And no one has done more thinking about Homeland than the show’s creators, Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon. The A.V. Club sat down with the pair to talk about what they’ve learned in the nine years the show has been on the air, mental illness and PTSD, and how the international community’s increasing lack of confidence in the U.S. will affect what viewers will see on screen this season.
