Honest Trailers dances on the grave of the Hunger Games franchise
Screen Junkies is so done with the Hunger Games movies. So done. The fourth and final installment in the series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 2 was released back in November 2015, and now here comes the very funny Honest Trailers version. The wait, honestly, was worth it, as the video provides a perfect excuse to vent four movies’ worth of frustrations and disappointments in five blistering minutes. The spoiler-heavy Mockingjay mock trailer almost feels like it was made by students who have just finished taking a lengthy and grueling exam and just want to collapse somewhere and not think about anything for a while. As always, narrator Jon Bailey sets the tone with his low-pitched, raspy voice-over:
They’ve been building to the conclusion of the Hunger Games franchise since 2012. Now, after two child-murder Super Bowls and one unnecessary feature-length prologue, strap in for the long-awaited finale, where Katniss Everdeen completes her epic revenge quest to murder President Snow by not murdering President Snow. Wait, are you kidding me? They just calmly talk in a rose garden? You call that a satisfying conclusion? That’s like Kill Bill if they never killed Bill!
Besides the movie’s paucity of satisfying action scenes, another chief complaint of the trailer is that the characters spend way, way too much time talking about Josh Hutcherson’s uninspiring Peeta character, whom Katniss somehow chooses over Liam Hemsworth’s Gale. This point drives narrator Bailey to distraction. How could anyone choose Hutcherson over a Hemsworth? It boggles the imagination. Still, this lead to an amusing mini-montage of Hunger Games characters saying the word “Peeta” over and over again, the name only becoming sillier with each repetition. And speaking of silly, what’s up with those tiger people? And don’t say that there were tiger people in the book, because Bailey doesn’t want to hear it.
