Honey Bucket tries to understand the unknown in “Unexplainable Phenomenon”
Portland’s Honey Bucket has a strong understanding of the obscure. The band’s music is lo-fi rock that recalls the likes of Beat Happening and Guided By Voices, bands that found ways to make simple setups not a hindrance, but a crucial component of the work itself. The A.V. Club is premiering “Unexplainable Phenomenon” from Magical World, the band’s upcoming album on See My Friends Records. The song tells a simple story of walking around and encountering things that lack an earthly explanation, which is matched by the song running itself off into a spacey jam in its back half. After some ominous beeps and boops, Honey Bucket kicks everything into second gear, as a whirlwind of drum fills and guitar leads spin the song into a dimension all its own.
Magical World is available for pre-order now.
