Enter the latest addition to the Hot Young canon with the upcoming Epix series Pennyworth, which explores the younger, sexier, more action-packed days of Batman’s butler. Long before he was bringing the Dark Knight his OJ and toast in the morning, Alfred was a badass British SAS officer who started his very own private security business in swingin’ 1960s London. Yeah, baby! And according to the latest teaser, it looks like Pennyworth is wasting no time bringing the Wayne family into the fold.
Pennyworth, which premieres on July 28, stars The Imitation Game’s Jack Bannon as the eponymous hero, destined to some day hang up his cool spy skills so he can dedicate his life to serving a wealthy family and their grumpy son. The 10-episode series, from Gotham’s Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, also stars Fleabag’s Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, along with Paloma Faith, Jason Flemyng, Ryan Fletcher, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Emma Paetz, and Polly Walker. It will inevitably end with the death of Thomas and Martha Wayne because you simply cannot have a Bat-thing without killing those people.
