How 68 Whiskey uses its ex-military writers to get base life right

When it comes to how the ins and outs of daily military life are depicted on screen, most civilian viewers couldn’t tell the difference between a PX and a RPG. Veterans watching at home and active duty personnel watching on bases around the world definitely can, though. That’s something 68 Whiskey, a recently launched comedic drama about medics on a base in Afghanistan, has tried to take into consideration when crafting its settings and storylines. It’s done that in part by hiring ex-military writers and production people, who have lent some of their own stories and histories to what we’re seeing on screen. The A.V. Club talked to one of those military veteran writers, Dylan Park, about rug smuggling, romance, and how the show blurs the edges between what’s on-screen and what’s plausible on a base.
