How quickly will you binge-watch Orange Is The New Black season 5?
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Orange Is The New Black (Netflix): The ladies from Litchfield return for a brand-new season full of prison intrigue and backstories, as all of season five drops on June 9. From the trailer, it appears that season five will see the different prison factions band together (instead of their usual in-fighting) in an attempt to raise an effective protest against the inhumane living conditions they’ve been enduring since the prison was privatized. In the wake of last season’s devastating final episodes, OITNB will likely once again set speed-watching records for devoted viewers like our reviewer Myles McNutt. In fact, he’s dropping all 13 episode reviews today, so if you’re a binger like he is, you won’t have to wait for his take.
Regular coverage
RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1, Friday, 8 p.m.)
Reign (The CW, Friday, 9 p.m.)
Orphan Black (BBC America, Saturday, 10 p.m.): Fifth season premiere
Wild card
Becoming Cary Grant (Showtime, Friday, 9 p.m.): The cinematic legend receives the documentary treatment, based on an unfinished autobiography he left behind after his death in 1986. The film appears to focus on Grant’s controversial LSD treatment when he was in his 50s, which was an experimental effort related to his psychotherapy. Grant is fascinating no matter what, so this chance to find out more about him (and see new archival footage) will likely be something fans of Hollywood’s golden age will want to check out.
