How the highest-grossing movies of the past 35 years scored on Rotten Tomatoes
You’re probably aware of the common maxim in art: that critical acclaim doesn’t equate to commercial success. However, a new imgur graph argues that the two aren’t all that far apart.
Someone took time out of their lives to compare the highest-grossing movies of the past 35 years to their Rotten Tomatoes scores. It turns out that 23 of the 35 films featured has a score of at least 80 percent. Only five have lower than 60 percent: Top Gun (blasphemy!), Home Alone, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Perhaps the bigger question here is just how the Jim Carrey-starring How The Grinch Stole Christmas ended up being the highest-grossing movie of 2000. Was that year really that bad?
