Hulu renews freshman comedies Pen15 and Ramy
Two of Hulu’s freshman shows are moving through the ranks: The platform recently announced that Pen15 and Ramy were both renewed for second seasons. They join Shrill, which already received orders for an eight-episode second season in April. Per a recent press release, the streaming service has ordered 14 episodes for Pen15 and 1o for Ramy, the revelatory comedy about first generation Egyptian-American Ramy Hassan.
All three shows have received widespread critical acclaim, including solid reviews from our own TV Club. The announcements came during Hulu’s 2019 Upfronts presentation. The event also included the reveals of two new collaborations with Marvel Television, a new programming deal with Chrissy Teigen, and the addition of new shows Nine Perfect Strangers and The Dropout, starring Nicole Kidman and Kate McKinnon respectively. The onslaught of news reflects the platform’s aggressive effort to expand their slate of original programming.
