“Humble” but with Kendrick only rapping about syrup sandwiches

A great opening line can make a rap track. Phrases like “It was all a dream” or “I bomb atomically” or “So I typed a text to a girl I used to see” ignite minutes-long strings of remembered bars in the heads of rap nerds, who were the exact audience most primed to detonate with joy upon the release of Kendrick Lamar’s stripped-down, direct Damn earlier this year. And opening single “Humble” had what may be an all-timer in its opening line: “I remember syrup sandwiches and crime allowances,” which sets off the slithering, sinuous flow the rapper would maintain for the track’s run time.

What if that’s all he said though? Welcome to an extremely syrupy “Humble”:

It’s almost enough to make you hungry, assuming you really, really like syrup.
