Hungary made amazing posters for movies like Back To The Future and Star Wars

Eastern Europe is known for its impressionistic approach to movie posters; both Poland and Czechoslovakia produced some pretty incredible examples of poster art during the Soviet era. But these Hungarian posters—produced by local artists for Hungarian releases of foreign sci-fi films in the ‘70s and ’80s, and recently compiled on io9—are truly top-tier.

Originals of these promotional masterpieces can go for thousands of dollars on eBay (that Empire Strikes Back poster sold for $1,595 in January), so if you really want one, start saving now. And for even more examples of Hungarian poster art, some at surprisingly reasonable prices, visit theBudapest Poster Gallery’s website.
