Variety is reporting that Katherine Bigelow's bruisingly intense Iraq War drama The Hurt Locker has won big at the Gotham Independent Film Awards, picking up prizes for Best Film and Best Cast. The muckraking expose Food Inc. won for best documentary while Catalina Saavedra won Best Breakthrough Actor award for The Maid. Most excitingly, for me at least, former Onion editor and friend of the A.V Club Robert D. Siegel won the award for Best Breakthrough Director for Big Fan. As an impartial third party observer I would like to say, yay Rob!
