Hush’s Mike Flanagan developing Haunting Of Hill House series for Netflix

According to Variety, Netflix is developing a “modern re-imagining” of Shirley Jackson’s horror novel The Haunting Of Hill House with Hush and Oculus director Mike Flanagan at the helm. This is all pretty early, but the plan is for it to be a 10-episode series that presents Jackson’s book in some new way. The original story—which was previously made into movies in 1963 and 1999—is about four people spending a spooky summer in a spooky house, and the Netflix series will presumably update it into a spooky Airbnb where nobody gets a good cellphone signal. (It’s spooky because it’s hard to check Twitter!)

This is the second big project for Flanagan at Netflix, as he previously signed on to direct a movie version of Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game for the streaming service. Neither of these projects seem to have release dates yet.
