I, Tonya’s stars say they knew almost nothing about Tonya Harding before being cast in the film

Margot Robbie’s new film I, Tonya centers around former Olympian Tonya Harding and her life leading up to the U.S. Figure Skating Championship in 1994, where she and her spouse, Jeff Gillooly, hired a man to break the leg of fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan. Although Harding gained notoriety in the aftermath of the incident, most of the young I, Tonya cast, including Robbie, didn’t know anything about her story. At the film’s premiere, we spoke with the cast and director Craig Gillespie to see how much they knew about the story before signing on for the project.
