Idris Elba broods up a storm in the trailer for the BBC’s Luther special
We’re just now getting our first look at the BBC’s upcoming three-hour Luther TV movie (or two-part Christmas special, for those on the other side of the pond). We know from previous reports that Idris Elba’s disaffected detective chief inspector will spend this new allotment of screen time chasing down a cannibalistic serial killer and fighting off his inner demons alongside a fellow detective played by Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey).
But this new minute of footage gives us insight into a few other things: For example, that John Luther’s beard seems to have a bit more salt mixed in with its pepper. We also learn what Rose Leslie looks like costumed as someone from this century, that the White Cliffs of Dover are a great place to stare into the middle distance while roiling with existential nausea, and how it would feel to hurl a full rubbish bin at some people on a motorcycle. Classic Luther. The special will air in its entirety December 17 on BBC America in the U.S. and beginning December 15 on BBC One in the U.K.
