If it means casting Paul Reubens, John Oliver, and Katy Perry, The Smurfs movie will force us to acknowledge it

Perhaps as an attempt to counteract our less-than-enthusiastic response to the idea of a Smurfs movie, producers have set about populating the Smurf village with as many name actors and celebrities as possible to force us to pay attention. In addition to previously announced cast members Neil Patrick Harris on the flesh-and-blood side of the CGI/live-action hybrid and Paul “Pee Wee” Reubens as Jokey Smurf, Entertainment Weekly runs down some of the many people who have recently been roped into lending their voices to various Smurfs, including: The Daily Show’s John Oliver (Vanity Smurf); Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson and Fred Armisen (Greedy and Brainy Smurf, respectively); The Office’s B.J. Novak (Baker Smurf); Wolfgang Puck as Chef Smurf; character actor Gary Basaraba (Hefty Smurf); this generation’s Walter Koenig, Anton Yelchin (Clumsy Smurf); Jeff Foxworthy (Handy Smurf); George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf); Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf); Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf); Katy Perry as Smurfette; and Hank Azaria as Gargamel. Also, Glee’s Jayma Mays will join Harris as one-half of the couple who discover the Smurfs living in Central Park—which we guess means Gargamel’s lair is somewhere on the Upper East Side?
