IFC adopts Chris Gethard and gives him his own show
Expanding its increasingly generous relationship with comedians, IFC has picked up a pilot from Upright Citizens Brigade-bred comic, host, and author Chris Gethard, the network has announced. Gethard is the first to benefit from IFC's new "Adopt-a-Comic" initiative, which takes in comedians from the cold and gives them the shelter to host programming and create their own content, all while promising the comic that they love them just the same as if they birthed them themselves (though the comic can't help but wonder). As part of being brought into the IFC foster family, Gethard will overcome the traumatic memory of Big Lake by developing this new series based on his book of other, earlier tramautic memories, A Bad Idea I’m About To Do: True Tales of Seriously Poor Judgment and Stunningly Awkward Adventure, which chronicles his childhood as an oft-bullied nerd and his eventual realization that he's bipolar. The title Everybody Hates Chris is, unfortunately, already taken, but Everybody Hates Chris And Also He Is Bipolar is still free.
