IFC is not stupid, renews Portlandia for two more seasons
Thanks to an unofficial company plan that involves not shooting itself in the foot, Variety reports that cable channel IFC has renewed sketch comedy show Portlandia for two more seasons. Currently in its fifth season, the renewal notice orders 10-episode runs for seasons six and seven, taking the show through 2017.
Produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s show has become a breakout hit and Emmy-nominated critical favorite, boosted by a large rotation of noteworthy guest stars and the refusal of IFC to make idiotic decisions like not renewing its most well-known series. The current season airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET and not on alternate Saturdays for six minutes at a time, because the channel is not run by insane people.
