Iggy Pop and Josh Homme join forces for a new album, Post Pop Depression
Between Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, Kyuss, and Them Crooked Vultures, Josh Homme likes to keep a lot of different projects cooking. For his latest musical venture, Homme has teamed up with proto-punk legend Iggy Pop for a new LP, Post Pop Depression, that’s expected to be released sometime in March on Loma Vista Recordings.
In a profile piece by The New York Times that broke the news about the previously secret collaboration, Pop revealed that the theme of the album is, “What happens after your years of service? And where is the honor?” He adds, “In American life, because it’s so hyper-competitive, what happens when you’re finally useless to everyone except hopefully not yourself? What happens then? And can you continue to be of use to yourself? I had a kind of character in mind. It was sort of a cross between myself and a military veteran.”
The new group, which also counts Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders as members, will make its debut tonight, Jan. 21, on The Late Show With Steven Colbert. A brief tour to coincide with the release of the album is expected to follow.
