Ike Turner RIP

Rock and R&B; legend Ike Turner died yesterday at the age of 76 in his home outside San Diego. The cause of death has not yet been reported. Turner has long been associated with his ex-wife Tina–although he denied her famous claims of domestic abuse–but he's also acknowledged by many music historians as the man behind the first true rock 'n' roll record: a 1951 single called "Rocket 88" that he recorded with his Rhythm Kings and was credited to Jackie Brenston And His Delta Cats. Ike's career continued in the shadow of Tina's after she left him in 1976, although he won a Grammy last year for his album Risin' With The Blues.
