Say what you will about Michael Bay, but the man does a good job keeping his finger on the pulse of whatever people think is cool. For 1998’s Armageddon, he tapped into America’s twin loves of Aerosmith and being crushed by giant space rocks. In 2001’s Pearl Harbor, he embraced the world’s desire to spend seven hours on the romantic anguish of Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett, set to a soundtrack of Faith Hill. He tried to do the same thing in his original Transformers trilogy (which we will refer to as “Generation One”) by featuring beloved nu-metal band Linkin Park on the soundtrack, unfortunately neglecting to realize that it’s no longer 2003 and Linkin Park isn’t cool anymore.
For Transformers: Age Of Extinction, Michael Bay seems to be trying to correct that mistake by getting a band that’s currently popular: Imagine Dragons. This news comes via Deadline, which reports that the band was given early versions of a few key scenes from the film for inspiration, seemingly at the behest of Bay himself. Imagine Dragons then came back with a song called “Battle Cry,” which Deadline says will “[figure] into several sequences of the film.”
It’s obviously a fool’s errand to try and predict a Michael Bay movie (aside from the requisite heroic shots of American flags and military hardware), but after listening to a bit of Imagine Dragons’ song—which you can do yourself in the clip below—we’re able to predict a number of key details about Age Of Extinction’s plot. Like that it will probably have at least one battle. Who will take part in that battle remains to be seen, but if we were bold enough to make another prediction we’d say, “Some robots.”
