Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” is officially one of the most popular songs ever
If you’ve heard anything or been anywhere in the past three years, there’s a good chance that you’re not only familiar with Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive,” but that you’re also so unbelievably sick of hearing the song that you’d rather cut off your own ears than hear it pop up in another movie trailer or TV commercial. In case you don’t know it by name, it’s the one that goes like this: “Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I’M RADIOACTIVE, RADIOACTIVE.” There’s also a part where he says something about a prison bus. See? You know it, and you probably hate it.
Unfortunately, if you are one of the seven billion people who is completely and utterly tired of Imagine Dragons, Billboard has officially declared your opinion to be wrong. That’s because “Radioactive” just earned a spot on the Recording Industry Association Of America’s prestigious “Diamond” list, an honor reserved for singles and albums that have been bought (or streamed, as of a few years ago) more than 10 million times. Only a handful of singles have reached this milestone, including Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” and Elton John’s “Candle In The Wind 1997,” the only single to make the list without taking streaming into account. Obviously, this cements “Radioactive” as one of the greatest and most important songs of all time, so the next time you hear it, why don’t you stop whatever you’re doing, close your eyes, and just let the music take you away.
THIS IS IT, THE APOCALYPSE. OH, WHOA.
