In fashion, one day you’re in, and the next you’re out—and Project Runway is back in
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Thursday, August 16. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Project Runway (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): Lifetime’s signature fashion competition is well past its glory days, and its 90-minute episodes are a look that unapologetically goes against the kindly admonitions of Tim Gunn. (By which we mean to say: They don’t make it work.) But kudos to Project Runway for remaining compulsively watchable anyway, and for finding opportunities to innovate 16 seasons in. This season, it’s all about showing what the population beyond the catwalk actually looks like, with models ranging from size 0 to size 22 testing the designers to create fashions for a variety of body types. You’d think the show might’ve gone in that direction after Ashley Nell Tipton took the season-14 crown with a plus-size Fashion Week collection, but hey: Style changes quickly; TV takes its time.
Regular coverage
Zoo (CBS, 10 p.m.)
The Mist (Spike, 10 p.m.)
Wild card
Naked SNCTM (Showtime, 11 p.m.): The internet might be for porn, but ever since the heyday of HBO’s Real Sex, pay TV has been for high-quality smut flying under the banner of documentary filmmaking. Continuing in that grand tradition of NSFW content viewed through the grain of scrambled signals, Naked SNCTM takes viewers inside “the most exclusive, high-end erotic club ever.” Because nothing says “most exclusive“ and “high-end” like stapling the word “naked” to a show’s title.
