In space, nobody can you hear you scream, “I need Ripley’s shoes!”
In 1986, Reebok and 20th Century Fox announced that the new film Aliens would preview a shoe that consumers wouldn’t see for 150 years. Now, 120 years early, Reebok is releasing replicas of the footwear that Ellen Ripley and Lance Bishop donned in James Cameron’s Alien sequel:
Merchandising has certainly come a long way since 1979, when Kenner’s original Alien action figure was pulled from toy shelves for being too terrifying. These days, toys and memorabilia are aimed at adults with expendable income, making good on everything they ever wanted as a kid. In other words, if you wanted shoes like Lt. Ripley when you were seven, you’re going to get them when you’re 36. Both an extremely high-top and mid-top version are coming your way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Oscar winning film, and you can even get the Seiko Giugiaro 7A28-7000 replica to match.
This won’t be the first time Alien Stompers have been released to the public: Reebok put out a very limited run of the “Alien Fighter Shoe” in 1987, several versions were released in Japan in 2003 and 2008, and there was even a “Freddy Krueger”-themed edition released in 2007.
Reebok will release the new kicks on April 26th, which is now “Alien Day”—for those of you that felt May the 4th Be With You wasn’t silly enough—in reference to LV-426, the planet where the Nostromo crew landed, leading to a very unfortunate meal and setting into motion the Alien saga.
No price point has been announced for the Alien Stompers as of yet.
