Inevitable live-action version of Pinocchio in development

Soon your local movie marquee will be blanketed by nothing but comic-book superheroes and live-action versions of fairy tales: Variety reports that consistently used-and-abused TV vet Bryan Fuller (Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies) will make the jump to feature films with a live-action version of Pinocchio for Warner Bros. Producer Dan Jinks says that the film was “inspired by” Tim Burton’s recent take on Alice In Wonderland, which we’ll take to mean “quickly rushed into production once we realized—like the people behind the forthcoming updates of Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, et al.—that taking a story from the public domain with built-in name recognition is a license to print money.” Jinks promises that they’ve found a “fresh approach that’s going to be very entertaining”—so, hip-hop musical? Whatever. This is the only bar it has to clear.
