Influencer's fake trip to Coachella somehow more exhausting than just going to Coachella
Deciding if it is worthwhile to attend an event like Coachella is always a matter of personal preference. Certainly you will have to deal with large crowds, high heat, inconvenient transportation, not to mention the many expenses associated with things like tickets, food, lodging, and intoxicants. If you can stomach it, the payoff is huge: Great acts and the genuine spectacle of it all. What absolutely does not seem worth it, however, is faking a trip to Coachella, which is what social media influencer Gabbie Hanna reveals she’s done in the above video.
Hanna describes herself as a “social awkward, socially anxious, introverted hermit” who also endlessly posts photos and videos of herself on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter. The purpose of her fauxchella stunt was to make a point about social media. Apparently, sometimes it’s fake and bad? Who knew.
Obvious or not, Hanna is here to expose “how easy it is to fake things on social media” with a ruse so simple it takes a video the length of an episode of The Office to explain. Throughout her non-Coachella weekend, Hanna styles herself in multiple festival-style outfits and fake wristbands; visits various expensive looking locations around Los Angeles with photographers; has friends at Coachella send her footage from the actual event to fill in the gaps in her Instagram story; and has editors painstakingly marry her photoshoots to actual Coachella photos—all to make a grand total of three (3) permanent Instagram posts.
In the middle of all this, Hanna makes a stop at the Watts Empowerment Center to visit the kids there, so if you found yourself starting to suspect this whole exposé on the cynical ways influencers present their lives to get views was in fact itself a cynical ploy to get views, well you can just fuck right off, pal.
Anyhow, for what it’s worth, the results are pretty impressive:
Wow! It really does look like she’s at Coachella. Kind of looks like fun! Maybe next year she should go.
