After losing bassist Carlos Dengler to his lifelong dream of launching his own suspender line (or whatever), the recently revived New York group has found his replacement in Dave Pajo, a founding member of post-rock icons Slint who must have some sort of Batphone on his desk for whenever an indie band needs an extra member. (You can read a little bit about some of Pajo’s previous experience working as a hired gun—something he’s done for everybody from Tortoise to Zwan to Will Oldham to Stereolab—in this Random Rules our own Jason Heller conducted, which also contains some primo Billy Corgan insults.) Pajo will join the group on its upcoming tour behind its fourth album alongside Secret Machines frontman Brandon Curtis, who’s putting his main project aside for a bit to play keyboards and sing backing vocals. Interpol issued an official statement on its website saying it’s “very excited and honored to be working with such talented individuals. Come and see why.” That sounds like a dare.
